“Demultiplexing complex tissue regeneration”

Abstract: Salamanders demonstrate remarkable regenerative capaci
ty. Using single-cell sequencing approaches we have found that the regener
ating limb is a complex immune milieu. We now in the processes of identify
ing the cellular composition of the salamander immune system and investiga
ting how the immune system impacts regenerative outcomes. This involves a
deep characterization of the salamander immune system paired with genetic
knockouts that will allow us to test the role of specific immune cells in
regeneration.
