scription: In research labs worldwide\, quantum physics is making unpreced
ented strides. The realization of robust quantum systems holds tremendous
promise for applications in secure communication and computing. Yet\, as p
hysicists\, our most exciting pursuit lies in experimentally testing quant
um phenomena predicted over the past century within highly controlled envi
ronments. In this colloquium\, I will explore two distinct approaches to e
ngineering quantum matter: one fueled by human creativity and the other dr
iven by artificial intelligence. Throughout the colloquium\, we will uncov
er how these approaches can be effectively deployed in contemporary quantu
m experiments\, paving the way for advancements in our understanding and c
 ontrol of quantum phenomena.
