 mplitude and phase information in an interference pattern. With the advanc
 e of digital detectors and computing technology\, it was possible to recor
 d the holograms digitally and process them afterwards. This enables direct
  access to the quantitative phase information that can be used for phase i
 maging or to measure shape and deformation of large or small samples.  Wit
 h the further advance of computing power and processing time\, other more 
 computationally demanding methods for retrieving the phase have been devel
 oped at the benefit of not requiring a separate reference wave and hence e
 nabling a more environmentally robust setup.  This presentation describes 
 and compares phase retrieval methods using holographic (with reference) an
 d reference-free setups.
