- Description
- ABSTRACT Nanocellulose has emerged as a sustainable and versatile nanomaterial due to its renewable origin, tunable surface chemistry, high surface area, and excellent mechanical properties. This presentation highlights nanocellulose extracted from agro-waste resources and engineered through controlled chemical modifications for multifunctional applications. Lightweight nanocellulose aerogels with excellent thermal insulation, flame retardancy, and mechanical robustness have been developed. Surface-functionalized nanocellulose materials exhibit efficient oil-water separation with high absorption capacity and recyclability. Self-assembled cellulose nanocrystals enable chiral nematic photonic structures with tunable coloration for anticounterfeiting and optical sensing. Chemically tailored nanocellulose has also been explored for triboelectric nanogenerators with enhanced energy harvesting efficiency. These developments establish agro-waste-derived nanocellulose as a promising platform for environmental, photonic, sensing, security, and energy-related applications.
